Molteni&C underlines its long-standing cooperation with Zingg-Lamprecht , choosing their space to present “Vivere alla Ponti”, the exhibition celebrating the great Italian architect and designer, to the Swiss market.

On 25 September, to coincide with the preview of the exhibition, the film “Amare Gio Ponti” was screened for the first time at the Landesmuseum, one of Switzerland’s most important cultural institutions.

Created for Molteni&C’s reissue of Ponti’s furniture, the “Vivere alla Ponti” exhibition pays tribute to the great twentieth-century Italian architect, his domestic design, obsession with detail and his vision of modernity that is still fresh today. All these qualities can be seen in the new editions of his most significant furniture designs, which are produced today by Molteni&C. Ponti’s interior design projects – homes and offices – come back to life through videos, archival pictures and drawings created across a lifetime.

The exhibition is both an intimate and professional portrait set in the Milan homes of the Ponti family – on Via Randaccio, Via Brin and later Via Dezza – as well as at Studio Ponti, among drafting machines, the editors of Domus and friends like Bruno Munari. It includes his first designs for workspaces: among the desks of Palazzo Montecatini in Milan, at the more well-known Pirelli offices and in the company of women working at Vembi-Burroughs in the 1950s.

Places designed for the people living there, for the joy of children, for the comfort of employees, for efficient working as well as furniture created for the shipping line Italia and its ocean liners Conte Biancamano, Conte Grande, Giulio Cesare, Oceania, Africa and Andrea Doria. Places in which architecture, interiors and furniture harmoniously come together.

Founded in 1934, Molteni&C celebrates its history of quality, research and innovation with a special focus on masters of architecture and design. This celebratory inspiration became a project in 2010 of remakes of furniture designed by Gio Ponti, the great twentieth-century architect and Italian ambassador of design around the world. The collection of furniture has expanded every year with new pieces and in 2012 culminated with a worldwide exclusive agreement with Ponti’s heirs for the reissue of his designs in the near future.
Born in Milan in 1891, Ponti’s career spanned from the 1920s to 1970s. He was an architect, industrial designer, painter, professor at Milan’s Politecnico, writer and founder of Domus magazine.
