BIENVENUE AU CHÂTEAU

Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to spend a few days in an extraordinary monument with a 1,000-year history, situated in the heart of Europe and once home to kings, princes, dukes and industrialists?

Château de Mirwart is a historic fortress, mentioned in the lists of Charlemagne’s and Godefroy de Buillon’s properties. It sits in the heart of Wallonia, a French-speaking region of Belgium that was part of the territory of the Duchy of Burgundy at the time of Emperor Charles V. Later converted into the aristocratic family home of the De Smackers barons, who gave it the 18th-century character it has today, the property was purchased in 1820 by Aimé Gabriël d’Artigues, founder of the Vonêche and Baccarat glassworks, and then came into the possession of the Belgian court at the end of the 19th century. The last three owners converted the castle into a prestigious country residence.

Molteni&C took part in refurbishing the spaces and interiors, furnishing the Salon Bleu, the multi-purpose hall, the restaurant, the billiards room, the suites and the cottages. Nicola Gallizia selected items of furniture, such as armchairs and sofas from the Molteni&C|Dada collection and kitchens designed by Vincent Van Duysen, Yabu Pushelberg, Rodolfo Dordoni, Patricia Urquiola and Foster + Partners, as well as classic items by Scarpa and Gio Ponti, to give the historic setting a contemporary character.

In the 21st century, the castle was completely renovated and became became one of Europe’s most exclusive boutique hotels. The Belgian architect Jaspers-Eyers, famous for designing the Tour des Finances in Liège, turned it into a place of great charm that combines the uniqueness of a historic monument with the comfort of contemporary living.

Located in the middle of the Ardennes forest, the château boasts a restaurant and 20 residences in three different environments: suites, cottages and the Tour de Dinant. The surroundings inspired the interior design of the rooms. Wood, leather and stone combine to immerse guests in nature’s tactile and visual qualities. It is the ideal place in which to relax.
